16mo - 15.5 x 10 cm.; 670 - (2) pp. Red Cloth over boards with gilt lettering on the spine and the front board. The text block edges, with rounded corners, are stained red as issued. First published in 1943, this is the second edition. A collection of prayers, meditations and reflections to be used during twenty holy hours, each one with a different theme or purpose, before the Blessed Sacrament. Father Mateo (1875-1960) was a member of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary and a great advocate for the Enthronement of the Sacred Heart. Previous owner's name stamped on the front free and the back paste down end paper and on the tail margin of page 417. One odd thing that speaks of the times is that someone has crossed out in pen (though still quite readable), 9 lines of text on page 49 - part of the Act of Consecration in the New Year Holy Hour. It is the part praying for the redemption of Jews and Moslems. Otherwise the book shows very little wear and is otherwise clean with a sound binding.
