When Bernard of Clairvaux died in 1153, he had reached only the first four verses of chapter three of the Canticle in his eighty-four sermons. It was Gilbert who took up his unfinished task. Gilbert died without completing the task so it was completed by John of Ford, a contemporary English abbot. Gilbert's contribution has been published in three volumes, of which this is the third in the set. The dust jacket is faded on the spine and has some very minor edge wear.
