16mo - 17 x 11 cm.; viii - 377 pp. Blue vinyl over thin though rigid boards with silver gilt lettering and decorations on the front board. Illustrated with many small black and white line drawings. Pages 1 through 66 are prayers with the titling in either English or Latin and the text in Inuit pictographs. Pages 68 through 169 are hymns with the titling in either English or Latin and the text in Inuit pictographs. Nine of these pages are the music for a few of the hymns with the melody line only. Page 170 is the Eskimo alphabet with 48 pictographs and the English equivalent pronunciation. Pages 183 through to 371, with its own separate title page, are in a romanized text and in several sections with the first group of sections being common prayers, sacramental celebrations, funerals, benediction, etc. There follows a section of hymns and songs (Cantiques - Ingerutit) followed by the Ordinaire de la messe. Four page multilingial index at the back. The interior is very clean and the binding is tight. Pages 52 & 53 appear to have been stuck together along the fore edge margin at some point as there is some surface damage to the paper of both leaves that does not affect any text. The externals show minimal wear though the both the front and back cover have a narrow off-white stain across them. (What a phenomenal amount of work went into producing this book.)
