8vo - 21.5 x 14 cm.; xi - 378 pp. Blue cloth with gilt lettering on the spine. Translated by A. V. Littledale from the 1957 French edition "Newman, le developement du dogme". Written in 4 distinct parts and the subtitles of those parts will give some indication as to the content: Part I - Newman's Personality, Origin and Development of His Thought, Part II - The Growth of Faith and Dogma; The Problem of Development, Part III - The Immutability of Faith and Doctrine, The Problem of Tradition and Its Continuity, Part IV - Merits and Defects of Newman's Doctrine, A Critical Assessment. Five appendices are added along with a 6 page bibliography at the back. The book is very clean with a tight binding. The front board has some minor spotting on the tail margin. The unclipped dust jacket has minor wear and light soiling along with offsetting showing up on the inside of the jacket. (Ahem - a little heavy on the ink there Mr, Printer man).
