12mo - 18.5 x 12.5 cm.; xix - 258 pp. Green cloth over boards with gilt lettering on the spine. Full colour frontis of the cardinal at prayer. Mercier was a Belgian cardinal during the invasion of Belgium by German troops and openly defied the invaders and documented the atrocities that he witnessed. The 8 pieces present in this volume are entitled "Patriotism and Endurance", An Appeal to Truth", "My Return from Rome", "For Our Soldiers", "The Voice of God", "Belgium Enslaved", "Courage, My Brethren!", "Christian Vengeance". The book shows only very mild shelf wear and a slight bit of soiling on the fore edge of the front board, otherwise clean and tight. the dust jacket is edge worn and soiled.
