4to - 26 x 17 cm.; xix - [1] - 1209 - [5] - 26 - [2] pp. First published in 1892, this is a later edition. Full leather over boards with gilt lettering on a red panel in a six panel spine. Both end paper hinges are starting with paper splits in the gutters though the binding is still sound and supple. Illustrated with 37 photographic plates and many, many black and white inset or vignette type engravings. The interior is very clean. The leather binding is rubbed on the board edges and darkened on the margins and the spine. In addition to the the two editors mentioned, the other contributors/authors are Charles Burnett, Phineas Conner, Frederic Dennis, Charles Nancrede, Roswell Park, Lewis Pilcher, Nicholas Senn, Francis Shepherd, Lewis Stimson, William Thomson, and Collins Warren. This volume comes from the personal library of a turn of the century general practitioner from Eganville, a small jewel of a town in the Ottawa Valley, Ontario.
