An historical novel based on some strange circumstances of a mutinous crew running aground on the coast of Newfoundland in the Zuidersee. Sandemose (his original name was Axel Nielsen) (1899-1965) was Danish-Norwegian but worked in Newfoundland for a number of years as a teacher, journalist, lumberjack and sailor. Red cloth-covered boards with gilt spine lettering. Slight soiling on boards and bottom text block edge, former owner's initials on front free endpaper; binding sturdy, text pages clean. Dust jacket has some soiling with chipped edges and small closed tears.
