16mo - 17 x 12 cm.; ix - [3] -82 - pp. Bound in a stiff white parchment over thin and rigid boards with illuminated titling on the front. Leather thong stitched through the spine at the joints and a leather thong closure on the fore edge. The titling is hand done in colour with gilt highlights while the covers are yapped over the text block edges with the fore edge yap creased over the text block edge so as to meet together and appear closed when tied. This particular edition with its custom binding comes from the estate of Frances Rich and reflects the style used for her favourite books and those of her mother. For this particular editon, the English translation from the the Latin of Celano's was done by C. Danyell Tassinari with black and white illustrations by A. Moroni. G. Battelli provides an eight page introduction followed by a one page bibliographical note before the actual text itself. There are seven full page illustrations in all with one gracing the title page. A two page "Index of Chapters" are the last two printed pages. Slight browning of the text paper with a similar browning of the exterior parchment also. Housed in a simple patterned paper covered box with the box showing age toning and the lid has one split corner and two small closed tears in the sides. An unusual and quite exquisite book.
