8vo - 21 x 14 cm.; 405 -[3] pp. Blue-green cloth over boards with gilt lettering and decorations on spine and front board. A work of fiction or as the author writes in his postscript: "This book is entirely an imaginative product, a work of fiction. All of the characters of the piece are synthetic, composite. None of the incidents described ever occurred (or could occur) by Land or Sea. Finally, there was no War; there was no Navy". Previous owner's gift note to 'Dad' dated 1943. The external gilding is dulled and more so on the spine. Lower fore corners of the boards are bumped with the front corner being quite bumped. Otherwise very clean with a sound binding.
