16mo - 16 x 10 cm.; 352 pp. Full leather with a black cloth tape (library) applied over the spine. Engraved frontis of Thomas Warton. The five essays in this volume are: Essay 2 - "On the Progress and Merits of English Style, and on the Style of Addison in Particular", Essay 3 - "On the Critical Abilities and Taste of Addison", Essay 4 - On the Humour and Comic Painting of Addison", Essay 5 - "On the Fable, Imagery, and Allegory of Addison", Essay 6 - "On the Moral Tendency of the Periodical Writing of Addison". The leather is worn on all corners, the spine, or what is left of it, has been covered with black cloth tape and a hand lettered title at the top. The hinges are both re-enforced with a gray cloth tape and preliminaries, end papers and the title page have library stamps. Otherwise the text block is quite sound and remarkably clean. The book has been rebound at some point and that binding is sound and solid. "Fair" is a decidedly good descriptor for this wee book which is why it has a fair and wee price attached to it.; Ex-Library
