12mo - 17 x 10.5 cm.; vii - 264 pp. Gray - black cloth over boards with gilt lettering on spine and front board. First published in 1955 as "Mining Explained in Simple Terms", this is the third printing of the rewritten and enlarged edition which Professor Rice undertook in 1968. Essentially a collection of articles in an edited and updated form that had appeared in the 'Northern Miner' over the years. Illustrated with black and white photographs, drawings and maps. Thirty page glossary at the back of mining terms followed by a further ten page glossary of financial terms and ending with an eight page index. The covers show very minor fading and like shelf wear to the tail edges. The previous owner's name (Joyce Leverman) is stamped in gilt on the front board as this is a presentation copy from the publisher, James A. Cook. Otherwise the book appears to have never been used.
