Holland (1847-1918) was Canon of St. Paul's Cathedral and Regis Professor of Divinity at Oxford University. This is a collection of 24 essays he wrote primarily for the "Commonwealth" about a variety of English men and women, from Jenny Lind to Cecil Rhodes to John Ruskin. The boards are lightly soiled, spine lightly sunned, edgewear, bumped corners; text is tight and pages are clean.
