Edges quite worn, pages stained and chipped, library stamp on title page and a library label (Bibliotheca Fratrum Minorum, Harbor Springs, Mich.) on verso of front cover. A bit of history on these small pamphlets. During the great exodus from Ireland, there was a great deal of concern on the part of the Irish clergy both in Ireland and America about the faith of the emigrants once more was learned about life in New York, Baltimore, Chicago and Montreal / Toronto. Many such small pamphlets were assembled in a great hurry and very cheaply to be given to the emigrants and immigrants arriving at Iles d'Orleans or Ellis Island or leaving from Cobh. Very, very few have survived to this day and one is struck by their simple and childlike directness and clarity. Terrible times indeed.
