4to - 26 x 19.5 cm.; 48 pages. A saddle stapled oversized booklet. In the summer of 1982, there was re-enacted a canoe journey of 1648. Seventeen men, each taking the identity of one of the original travellers, made the trip in four large canoes, wearing historic clothing, using authenic gear, eating and sleeping in the manner of the 17th century persons. The 1648 group was made up of priests, soldiers, workers and donnes (volunteers). Father Somerville took the personna of Francesco Bressani, SJ. This is his diary and sketches as well as a song he wrote "Ballad of Sainte-Marie". Card stock covers have light edgewear and like soiling. Somerville has inscribed and signed this on the title page.; Signed by Author
