Author Name Humphreys, Arthur L. (Lee); aka - Arthur Pendenys Title Salt and Sincerity from Letters to Belinda Binding Hard Cover Book Condition Very Good with no dust jacket Publisher New York, New York Dodge Publishing Co. Seller ID 7780 12mo - 18.5 x 13 cm.; vii - [1] - 183 - [1] - pp. Blue cloth with gilt lettering on spine. Embossed panel on front (1.5" x 4") in white with gold lettering, decorations, and border stamped thereon. No date of publication given but circa 1908 - 1909. Presumed first edition. Dodge states that it does (did?) use the First Edition identifier on copyright page and if not a first, then removed the line and substituted "First Published" with subsequent printings listed. Neither of these are present. OCLC lists one edition by Walls, Gardner, Darton from 1908 (cataloguing error?) and locates 4 others by Dodge. Minor wear to the externals (rubbing and mild wear to spine crown/heel and board corners). The top edge of text block is gilt showing some mottled dulling of the sheen. Rough cut fore edge of the text block with a trimmed tail edge. Half title and title page show mild foxing as does the last page and verso of same. The binding is tight and soilid and the interior is very clean. A nice copy of one of cartographer Humphrey's (1865-1946) scarcer books - an eclectic collection of essays (58 in all). I enjoyed his short diatribe on "Fan-Wagging" and "Wagobulary". A clear and removable archival cover has been fitted.
