Sulivan was (and still is to some extent) a bit of a cult figure in France mainly due to his writings. "The Sea Remains" won both the Prix de l'Academie de Bretagne and also the Grand Prix Catholique de Litterature. It's story centres on the 'awakening' of a retired cardinal as he searches for the essential meanings of his life, his faith and the true nature of the spontaneity and joy the faith is supposed to give him.. Fr. Sulivan (1913-1980) was ordained a priest in 1938 and worked with university students in Rennes. He started writing in the 1950's and was freed from his duties in order to devote his time to writing and living quietly in Paris. He died in an auto accident in 1980.
