'Tis a rather quite nice book printed on a low sheen calendar-paper card stock. Many illustrations (10) are full page with remainder having a vine border with illustration on top quarter. Wonderfully poetic reminiscences about the Friday afternoon school exercises and romances both true and imagined that happened in a small Scottish elementary school. In grade 8, I had a teacher who read from a book of her choice for 1 to 2 hours each Friday afternoon. We all hung on every word she read, laughed ourselves silly at the funny parts, cried rivers of tears when the sad parts came and cheered ourselves hoarse when victory was won. She would often laugh louder and cry longer than any of us ever did. She is probably long dead now but this book put me in mind of her. God bless her.
