8vo - 20 x 13.5 cm.; 432 - - 16 pp. Dark green/blue cloth with gilt lettering on spine. Shahan was the professor of Church history at the Catholic University of Washington DC. The author's intent was to arouse a wider interest in the one thousand years of history in question by relating incidents and describing more mundane or everyday parts of life from those times while drawing parallels to the present day. Minor marginalia is present in the form of checkmarks, numbers and pencil strokes in the fore edge margin. The boards are moderately shelf worn with bumped and rubbed lower corners, minor soiling and scuffing to the boards and mild wear to the spine tips. The front free end paper has been removed and both front and back hinge have been re-enforced with hinged linen tape. Aside from that the binding is quite solid and sound.
