16mo - 16.5 x 9.5 cm.; (1) - ix - (7) - page 13 to 108 - (1) pp. Contemporary brown calf with panelled spine. Title is gilded in second panel on a green background with gilded urns on the other five. Board edges are gilded with a repetitive double line and single dot motif. Printed for R. Clements of Oxford and sold by R. Baldwin in Pater-Noster Row, R. Dodsley in Pall Mall, and T. Merrill in Cambridge. Previous owner's name (dated 1811) on the front free end paper and a more recent (1960) name in pencil on the reverse of same page. Bottom half of the back free end paper is missing and all end papers are stained brown on the margins from offsetting of the leather turn-ins under the papers. Very minor foxing to the title page with some staining of the head margins of text pages, at most 2 mm onto the page. Page vii/viii shows some minor paper loss on the fore edge, again no greater than 2 mm. Neither of these last two mentioned defects affect any text. Page 101/102 has a closed tear of 3 cm in the middle of the fore edge of the page. The binding is very sound and supple. A handsome little book when all is said and done and not very common in this good a condition.
