A convert to Catholicism and a Third Order Carmelite, Griffin wrote often of social issues and of his friend, Thomas Merton, a Trappist monk. In this novel, Griffin sets up the conflict of contemporary man between "the longings of the soul and the demands of the flesh" within and without the walls of a French monastery. Black cloth-covered boards with white spine lettering. Minor soiling and wear on boards and text block edges; binding tight, text pages clean.
