Written for the centenary of Charles' birth, Sheppard chronicles the dramatic life of this soldier, explorer, trappist monk, gardener, and for the last years of his life, a solitary living in the Sahara where he died a martyr's death on December 1st, 1916 in Tamanrasset. The last 2 chapters describe the subsequent accounts of his followers with the final chapter on the Little Brothers of Jesus. Library markings consist of a white call number on the book's spine and a pocket on the back free end paper. The DJ has tape stains on the spine and adjacent front and back panel where a sticker was residing. The book is slightly cocked with bumped lower corners and spine heel. The interior is very clean and the binding is tight. The dust jacket is worn at the edges with small chips and nicks and some mild soiling.
