8vo - 22 x 15 cm.; 113 pp. Padded blue leather with a gilded and decorated front board. Approbations present. "The Poems and Essays contained in the present volume were selected from some four hundred entries received in the Marian Prose and Poetry Contest sponsored by the Canadian Federation of Convent Alumnae and the Marian Literary Research committee." The occasion was the Marian Congress being held in Ottawa in 1947. Foreword by His Eminence James Charles Cardinal McGuigan, Archbishop of Toronto. Included in this collection is Dr. E. J. Pratt's "Mother and Child" and a final short essay "The Queen of Poesy". Some minor wear to edges of the board with the corners lightly bumped and worn on the tips. The endpapers are a blue moire silk on paper, the text block edges (fore and tail) are rough cut while, the head edge is trimmed and gilt, convent stamp on two interior pages (29 and 85). Otherwise the text is clean and the binding is sound.
