4to - 28 x 21 cm.; Unpaginated with 96 pages. Blue cloth over boards with gold lettering on spine and title blind stamped on the front. Three page introduction by Merton. A selection of black and white photographs of the life at and surroundings of the Trappist Abbey in Gethsemani, Kentucky. Photos have a small reflective text next to each one. The book itself shows very minor shelf wear to the board tail edges and the head edges of same are a tad faded. The dust jacket is mildly edge worn with small chips and nicks at the spine crown and tail. The front panel is rubbed and all four corners are clipped with the price still on the top of the front jacket flap. One of the nicer copies that we have seen in awhile. 17000

Actual date of publication is September 20 of 1951. Minor wear to the dust jacket's (unclipped) edges and folds. The text block edges show some darkening. Book seller's (Paul Elder of San Francisco) sticker on recto of the back free end paper. A nice copy with quite a good presentation. 8168

Merton looks at how exterior peace arises from inner peace which arises from spiritual peace. 1983
