Illustrated with full page black and white drawings from 28 different illustrators. Foreword by Maurice Carême. This is volume ten (dixieme) of "L'Encyclopedie Poetique" and number 169 of 1050 of which the first 50 were published in a deluxe binding. Library markings are attachments on the front end papers and the library name stamped on all three text block edges. Otherwise the book is very clean with only mild shelf wear to the externals and few signs that it has ever been used if at all.; Ex-Library 22049

16mo - 17 x 10.5 cm.; Volume 1: [10] - 376 pp. Volume II: [2] - 200 pp. Originally published in 1662, these would be the 1870's reprint with no statement of publisher or publication date. Two blank leaves (4 pages) separate the two volumes as bound. Bound in a pebble textured black leather with a five panel spine. Title gilt on red in second panel with date gilt in fourth panel. Two frontis illustrations facing each other for volume I followed by title page. Volume two begins with title page and blank on verso. The end papers are a light beige with a dendritic white pattern. Previous owner's name (dated) in ink on the front paste down. Very mild and very light foxing present with most of the foxing on the first 20 or so pages of volume I. Externally, the volume shows light shelf wear with a small snag on the spine tip at the joint of the front board/spine. A very nice copy with an excellent presentation. 17954

Adam of St. Victor was a twelfth century French poet who wrote liturgical hymns and sequences and the translations by Wrangham have been made from the Latin or so I am led to believe. Quarter bound with gray paper over boards and ivory cloth with red and black lettering on the spines. All text block edges are untrimmed or rough cut. Volume I - free front end paper is removed, Volume II and III - half of the free front end papers have been removed and the spines are chipped and separating at the joints. Previous owner's name present in all three on the first leaf of each. The interiors of all are clean and the bindings are sound and solid. Minimal foxing and that to the end papers. 28228
