8vo - 21 x 15.5 cm.; Bound in a brown suede morroco over raised spine bands with blind stamped vine design on front and back. Binding is be from the late 1700's to the early 1800's. The title page is missing as are the other preliminaries with the exception of "To the Christian Reader". The last page of text is the end of the Concordance with the printer's colophon below. The fore and head edge margins are chipped up to Genesis, Chapter XXIII (8 pages in total) with some loss of text for the marginal notes only. Remainder of pages are intact with some staining and marginal browning. Includes 2 concordances with preface by Robert Henry, dated 1578. There are several hand written notes scattered at various places throughout, the majority of them are dated in the early 1800's with one from 1675. None of the added marginalia and/or notes affect the text. The spine and joints have been professionally repaired. 24380

One green book mark ribbon set into the headband. Association Press is the publishing arm of the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA). Daily meditations on the letters of St. Paul with each piece beginning with the text quoted in bold. The Scripture texts used are those of the American Stanbdard edition of the Revised Bible. The externals show mild wear to the board corners and spine tips and the gilt spine lettering is a tad faded. The book mark ribbon is shortened from fraying. Offset tanning to pages 150 and 151 from a laid in newspaper clipping about Dr. Adam which has been included in a separate envelope. Otherwise the interior is very clean and the binding is tight and solid. 26870

An American Presbyterian minister and theologian, Briggs (1841-1913) was tried for heresy as a result of this speech. It created such an uproar that he felt compelled to publish this second edition to try to explain further his ideas. He later became a priest in the Episcopal Church. This copy was bound into plain cardboard covers with cloth tape at the spine. Library markings consist of spine number, stamping on text block edges, card pocket on the front cover of the paper wraps of the booklet, other library attachments on the verso of the cardboard front cover, blindstamped library name on title page and an interior page; former owner's name on the front cover of the booklet (G.
