1 Dalglish, Robert A Selection of Anthems and Other Sacred Compositions in Four Vocal Parts (Sacred Choruses).
Glasgow, Scotland William Hamilton Hardcover Very Good- 
8vo - 23.5 x 15.5 cm.; 96 pp. Green cloth over chamfered boards with embossed gold lettering on front set in a black embossed decoration. Back board has the same stamped decorations with no colour having been added. The date of publication is not known but most probably in the early 1870's as Robert Dalglish, a weaver and composer from Pollokshaws in County Renfrew, Scotland lived from 1806 to 1875. Previous owner's name in pencil and dated 1888 on the front free end paper. A selection of 20 choral pieces in four parts - Treble, Alto, Tenor, and Bass. From the list of contents: "God Is My Rock" - anthem, "Now Unto the King Eternal" - motett, "O Lord I Will Praise Thee" - anthem, "Holy Lord God of Hosts" - sanctus, "God Is Our Refuge" - anthem, "Behold I Show You a Mystery" - anthem, "Eternal God, Almighty King" - anthem, "Great and Marvellous" - anthem, "The Morning Breaks" - anthem, "Hosanna to the Son of David" - motett, "I Heard a Great Voice" - anthem, "Awake, Put on Thy Strength" - anthem, "Thou Lamp of Intellectual Ray" - anthem, "I Will Extol Thee" - anthem, "Peace Be With You All" - motett, "Look Not upon the Wine" - anthem, "Sleepers Awake" - anthem, "The Lord Reigneth" - anthem, "God Be Merciful" - anthem, "The Mother's Last Song" - motett. Both front and back end papers are foxed with some foxing on the title page also. The binding is slightly shaken but not loose and the text pages are clean. Externally the volume shows minor wear to the corners and spine crown/ heel. The stampings are sharp and where coloured / inked, they are bright and crisp. An extremely scarce collection of sacred music from the late 1800's and in what appears to be a Presbyterian or Methodist stance. A handsome volume with very good presentation. A removable archival cover has been fitted. 12852
