Allister, William A Handful of Rice. London, UK Secker & Warburg. 1961 First Edition Hardcover Near Fine in Very Good+ dust jacket 12mo - 19.5 x 13 cm.; 288 pp. Green cloth over boards with silver gilt lettering on spine. A novel based in a Japanese prisoner of war camp in Malaya and founded in part on the author's own life after his capture in the fall of Hong Kong. Interesting to note that the author kept a copious dairy of prison life, meticulously guarding it all through his trials only to have a friend unwittingly toss it into the ocean two days before liberation. The book shows minor dust soiling of the text block head edge and like (very minor) wear on the spine ends. The unclipped dust jacket is lightly soiled on the back panel and shows mild wear to the edges at the spine ends and the fly fold corners. The interior is very clean and the binding is sound and solid with little sign of wear or use to the book at all other than the mild shelf wear noted. 20161 Price:
